What Makes Weigh To Live
Different
From All of the Other Programs?
All of our plans are individualized based on your
resting metabolism, current fitness level and overall health. The
initial assessment will include obtaining your resting metabolism,
gait analysis, fitness level assessment, body fat, blood pressure,
plus much more. An eating plan and exercise plan including stretching
(for injury prevention), resistance training, and aerobic training
will be personalized for you. Your progress will be monitored regularly
and adjustments made as needed.
Many plans available today are the same the day
you start until the day you finish. This is not true with Weigh
To Live. You will meet weekly with a Weigh to Live professional
and alterations will be made to your plan as needed. As your body
changes and you start building muscle, losing fat and increasing
your metabolism, your diet and exercise plan will also have to change
to continue the weight loss process. Monthly educational/support
group meetings will also be offered to aid in your overall success.
Weigh To Live follows a medical model. We will
assess your blood pressure, pulse, weight, metabolism, range of
motion, flexibility and strength throughout the program so we can
show you overall improvement in health…not just weight loss!
We will also keep your primary physician informed of your progress.
The reason we do this is because the Weigh To Live health care professionals
know the overall positive health effects of maintaining a healthy
weight. This may include lowering blood pressure, increasing energy,
lowering cholesterol, decreasing joint pain, decreasing back pain
and decreasing potential for chronic diseases such as heart disease,
diabetes, and cancer. All creating a better Weigh To Live for life!
Your
Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR)
Your resting metabolic rate (RMR) accounts for
75% of your total calories your body needs each day. It tells us
exactly how many calories your body will burn at rest. Once we know
this number, we can calculate how many calories your body burns
with your occupation and lifestyle activities and come up with a
specific daily caloric intake.
Metabolisms are different among each individual.
Many programs are not individualized for your body and your genetics.
Unless a professional measures your RMR they would be guessing at
what your caloric needs are. Estimates of your RMR will only lead
to errors and inaccurate caloric budgets. They will lead to frustration
and an inability to reach your goals.
Most programs instruct you to cut your calories
and, as a result, your metabolism will lower to adjust to the decreased
intake. You will drop weight, however, your weight loss will eventually
plateau. You will then be instructed to drop your calories even
more and your metabolism drops even lower. You will continue this
process until you achieve your goal weight. During this process,
however, your metabolism will drop dramatically; therefore, the
second you start slowly increasing your calories, your weight will
comes back on.
How Do We Measure Your Resting
Metabolic Rate?
Weigh To Live measures your oxygen consumption
to determine your RMR. A 10-minute breath test will accurately measure
your RMR. Many factors influence your RMR such as: body composition,
age, gender, body mass index, lifestyle activities, occupations,
caloric intake and exercise habits. By accurately measuring your
RMR we can determine what will be the best process in helping you
achieve your goals.
Why
Are Weekly Followup Appointments Important?
Lifestyle changes are very difficult to accomplish
on your own. The Weigh To Live professionals will keep you accountable
by reviewing weekly diet/exercise logs and encouraging weekly weigh-ins.
This will allow us to alter your plan if necessary.
Why Are Monthly Educational &
Support Group Meetings Important?
The education programs will allow the Weigh to Live staff an opportunity
to share more valuable health related information with you. Also,
by meeting others whom are making similar lifestyle changes, you
will be able to discuss situations and receive feedback from each
other. It will be a time to share successes as well as discuss barriers
that have gotten in the way. This time is invaluable because so
much can be learned from each other! |
